When does our refusal to quit become an idol? A personal story, Hebrews 12, and three questions for discerning whether God is asking you to stay or let go.
For me, letting go or quitting is usually a gradual process.--more of a shift than a dramatic change. However, I took a job last December that I had a bunch of red flags about. I knew pretty much immediately that it was the wrong decision and I needed to quit. It was super hard and somewhat embarrassing, but I quit after three weeks. This is the first time I've ever quit anything so fast. To a degree, it made me feel strong to know myself so well and know with certainty what I needed to do.
Wow! What a great example of when perseverance would have been the exact opposite of what you knew was the right next step for you. I'm sure that decision came with a lot of discernment and self awareness. How did you feel once it was over?
At the time, I was training to become a Certified Music Practitioner and the job was in my old (marketing/PR) career field. It is a longer story...happy to share more. Hard to share it all in comments.
Excellent essay and a topic that I've thought about quite a lot. When is it okay to quit? Great points and valuable though processes. Keep it coming!
Thanks Lauren. I’m glad this piece connected with you. More to come. Stay tuned for Surrender up next ☺️
Any tips to add that have helped you as you’ve processed when to persevere & when to let go?
